The firm that blew it all in two years Sunday Times Times Online
A couple of years ago, Nokia released the N-Gage handheld. It was a cross between a cellphone, a handheld games console and a multimedia devise. The thing rocked and it was awesome. I owned one before it broke and afterwards I ended up buying a regular cellphone. Anyways, it rocked, it had (and still has) awesome games and it just worked. Then a “rival” company came out with a competing product and they called it the Gizmondo. It supposedly was the best handheld ever created (back then the PSP wasn’t out yet) but I just didn’t buy into it. The company seemed to be all hype with little substance. I mean the game library was a complete joke, it looked nasty, and it was just too expensive compared to Nokia’s machine. As the months passed, the hype increased but I still didn’t buy into it. Yet the company kept on going on about it as if it was a gaming/entertainment revolution. Well several years later, I had completely forgotten about it (well partly because Sony’s Playstation Portable is now the King Kong of handhelds) until I read this article. And I was just dumbfounded by it! You have got to read about it because it reads like a thrilling paperback! The company behind the device basically lied up to its eyeballs, it fudged the sales numbers, lied to investors, several guys related to the company have been busted for possessing illegal arms and sports cars!!! and they spent millions of pounds on basically nothing! To say that the article is interesting is an understatement. If you are interested in business scandals, thrilling arrests and investigation, or just want to read about how a company managed to lie so much then click on the above link because you can’t go wrong with it!
